[August 24, 2017] Updated Opening Line by Borki Predojević:
Queen’s Gambit Declined, Tartakower Variation with 8. Be2

[Line 263 : 1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 e6 3. Nf3 d5 4. Nc3 Be7 5. Bg5 h6 6. Bh4 O-O 7. e3 b6 8. Be2]

This classical opening line occured in many games of the famous Kasparov – Karpov matches in Moscow 1984/1985, where both K’s employed it with both sides. The most frequently played continuation is 8… Bb7 9. Bxf6 Bxf6 10. cxd5 exd5, with 11. O-O being the main alternative to 11. b4. In either case Black has a couple of ways to reach the equality.

After 11. O-O Black gets good prospects with 11… Qe7 12. Qb3 Rd8 13. Rad1 c5, as well as with 11… Nd7 12. Qb3 c6 13. Rfe1 Re8 14. Rad1 Nf8.

In case of 11. b4 both 11… c6 12. O-O Re8 13. Qb3 a5 and 11… c5 12. bxc5 bxc5 13. Rb1 Bc6 14. O-O Nd7 lead to positions with roughly even chances.

[Diagram: White to Move] Black pieces lack coordination, which together with the exposed black King allow White to obtain a decisive attack. How would you proceed  with White?
