Line 399 covers one of the main lines in the Anti-Marshall Variation of the Ruy Lopez. After the almost exclusive 10. Ba2 c5 move 11. Nc3 is a solid alternative to the more common 11. Nbd2.

The main line goes 11. Nbd2 Nc6 12. Nf1 Bc8, where after both 13. c3 and 13. Ne3 Black typically proceeds with Be6, which generally offers him reasonably decent prospects.

The idea of 11. Nc3 is somewhat different – White immediately takes control of the d5-square and later often transfers that Knight to d5 or g3 via the e2-square. Again, a tough strategic battle is ahead, with roughly equal chances.

[Diagram: White to Move] White is exerting pressure on the kingside, but still needs to find a way to capitalize on it. Any ideas?
